Saturday October 24th Tiziana Caponio has participated at the International Festival of Economics (Turin, Italy) in a roundtable dedicated to understanding the impact of foreign workers on the sustainability of European welfare systems and demographic decline. As Europe faces an unprecedented demographic winter, immigration is shifting from a purely social phenomenon to a vital economic variable. The panel has discussed the legal and economic boundaries surrounding access to social protection and who is entitled to welfare in a continent that finds itself balancing the need to attract talent with the ethical duty to protect asylum seekers – ultimately redefining the very concept of economic citizenship.
